The power of still images

Die Autorin Jesse Wender wurde von National Geographic Fotografin Lynn Johnson gefragt, einen Blogartikel zu schreiben zu Bildern, die zu “Change” inspirierten. Angetang von dieser Idee befragte Jesse Wenders 8 National Geographic Fotografen, Beispiele von ihren Bildern zu geben, die in National Geographic veröffentlicht wurden und von denen sie wussten, dass sie eine Initiative angeregt hatten. Einige der Bilder brachten Leser dazu, den auf den Bildern dargestellten Personen direkt zu helfen. Andere Fotos oder Fotostrecken initiierten Veränderungen von Gesetzen oder Richtlinien.

Die Autorin schreibt: “Photographs show us places and things we will never see in person, they express conflict in a visceral and enduring way, and they can be transformative. Photographs can cause us to think differently or move us emotionally, and sometimes they can even propel us into action.”

Ms. Wender was intrigued and asked 8 National Geographic photographers for examples of images that have initiated a reaction and action to help, support or change a situation they were touched by in the photographs or photo stories.
